Gift of Prophecy
1 Corinthians 14:1-4
Berean Study Bible (BSB)
1Earnestly pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy…… 3But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, encouragement, and comfort. 4The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. |
Prophesying is the empowerment by the HOLY SPIRIT to declare beforehand the mind of GOD concerning oneself, others, events, or situations. It is the spiritual gift where we speak forth the mind or Word from GOD. The bible tells us in Acts 2:16-17 – But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17And it shall come to pass in the last days, says GOD, That I will pour out of My SPIRIT on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, …. Before the dispensation of Grace, the SPIRIT of GOD would come on a man, and they would prophesy for a time and a purpose—but blessed be GOD who has given us HIS SPIRIT to dwell in us permanently. As Spirit-filled Christians, we have received the ability to prophesy and make changes in line with God’s will.
Prophesying is unique to the individual. The gift of prophecy is the expression of GOD’s wisdom, understanding and knowledge through HIS children. The power of GOD works through us when we are deeply rooted and grounded in the Word of GOD. John 14:23 says, “Jesus answered, ‘If anyone [really] loves Me, he will keep My word (teaching); and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling place with him.” The continuous fellowship of the HOLY SPIRIT is a key factor in our ability to prophesy effectively. Speaking in tongues is a catalyst for prophesying. As a child of GOD, this is not just a few seconds or minutes: the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. In the cause of praying fervently in the spirit (tongues), we begin to utter prophecies by the HOLY SPIRIT, which causes tremendous power to be available that brings the desired change. Then we see our prophecies happen. The creative ability of a child of GOD using the power of their mind and spirit through imagination is strengthened by the HOLY SPIRIT. This helps us stay focused throughout prayer. The SPIRIT of GOD enables our vision and creative ability that we may see that desired outcome and prophesy accordingly (THE SPOKEN WORD) with so much conviction and faith. For in the mouth of a king there is power (Ecclesiastes 8:4). We are kings & priests unto GOD reigning on this earth (Revelations 5:10).
We should not hesitate to prophesy to the lives of the brethren when the HOLY SPIRIT gives us utterance to do so. That way, we edify the church. A prophecy received must not be taken lightly. As Christians, it is essential we meditate on these prophecies, run with it in faith then our progress and success will be evident to all (1 Timothy 4:15). In the course of prayer, the SPIRIT of GOD now gives us utterance – PROPHESYING – unique to our circumstance that cause the desired change in line with GOD’s will for our lives. Your future is in your tongue.
Scripture meditation:
1 Corinthians 14:3-5; Proverbs 18:21; Joel 2:28; 1 Corinthians 12, & Ezekiel 37.
Prayer:
Glorious Father, thank you for the promised HOLY SPIRIT in me and with me. Thank you for the gift of prophecy. Father, stir up Your SPIRIT in me to prophesy always for the encouragement, exhortation and edification of myself and Your Church. In JESUS’ NAME.
Confession:
The gift of prophecy is at work in me. I speak the life of GOD always!

Without CHRIST!
John 15:5
New King James Version (NKJV)
5I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.20For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ,
The bible in Psalms 127:1 says, “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” GOD is more interested in our prosperity and success in this world than we could ever imagine (Jeremiah 29:11). In CHRIST, we have rest. The theme scripture says “……. For without me you can do nothing”. When a person makes JESUS CHRIST their Lord and saviour (born again), they are translated into the kingdom of light (that is connected to the vine). To do things now like the way an unbeliever or the world will do things is to be disobedient to GOD’s principles. The bible admonishes us not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:1-2). That way, we prove the glorious life GOD has predestined for us here on earth. To not walk in the principles of GOD found in the scriptures is to break off from the vine: the source. A Christian operating in this condition is setting themselves up for a life of struggles. True success is achieved when a child of GOD is deeply and strongly connected to the vine: CHRIST. The vine of a tree gives life to the branches, which bear the fruits, flowers and leaves: the beauty of the tree. The Christian life is an expression of God’s beauty and Glory. To be severed from the vine is like a fish trying to survive outside water. It is impossible.
Colossians 2:6-7 says, “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, ……….” We wrestle not against flesh and blood but principalities and powers, rulers of darkness, spiritual hosts of wickedness whose primary aim is to see Christians cut off from the vine. And if not corrected in time will cause them to lose the faith. And in turn be unsuccessful in this world and discouraged to the point of no longer believing in the Christian faith. And eventually lose their salvation (eternal life). When a Christian relies on their ability and not CHRIST JESUS as their source and their everything, they are cut off from the vine. When one’s love for GOD and the things of GOD becomes cold and no longer in first place in their lives, then they act and do things that cut them off from the vine. A Christian in this state is exposed to the wiles of satan.
To abide in CHRIST (always connected to the vine) is to meditate on the word of GOD that will cause us to observe all that is written in it, discover and fulfil our purpose in life, and have a continuous fellowship with the HOLY SPIRIT that will cause us to have a prosperous and successful life here on earth. Let us remain steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the LORD. Let us remain fervent in the things of GOD; always seeking and fellowshipping with one another where the blessings of the LORD is commanded (Psalms 133:3) and knowledge of GOD is increased. This causes GRACE and peace to be multiplied in our lives (2 Peter 1:2). Fervently seek the kingdom of GOD and righteousness, and every one of your desires will be added to you. You will not have to struggle in this world, and all things will be freely added to you (Romans 8:32). The world sees you as the shining light that you are and a dispenser of the blessings of the LORD.
Scripture meditation:
Colossians 1:22-23; Romans 8:32; Philippians 4:13 & John 15:16.
Prayer:
Heavenly FATHER, thank you for a life hid with CHRIST in you. I fulfil your will and purpose for my life, bearing good fruits always. And with your SPIRIT in me, a guarantee of your promise, I can do all things, making my world a beautiful place and a dispenser of your love and blessings, in JESUS’ NAME.
Confession:
I am connected to CHRIST, for my life is hidden with CHRIST in GOD!

Our Citizenship
Philippians 3:20
New King James Version (NKJV)
20For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ,
A Christian is one who is born again: that is, one who has accepted the birth, death & resurrection of the LORD JESUS CHRIST, and has made HIM LORD over his life. A Christian is one who believes, trusts and practices the teachings of the scriptures. A Christian is one whose citizenship is not of this world, but that of Heaven. Although, we physically live in this world but we are from Heaven – Zion, because just as the scripture puts it in Ephesians 2:5-6 “even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,”.
There is the proverb that says, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do”. This means to conform to the standards expected of the people, culture, rules, and laws of that land. This is advice in order to get positive results and obtain the peace and prosperity associated with that land. A Christian is one who is the blessed of GOD, a seed of Abraham, an heir according to the promise of GOD. CHRIST JESUS came to this world to reconcile us back to our Father, to enjoy all of HIS promises of salvation: a glorious life on earth and in Heaven (John 10:10). To enjoy all of these blessings requires the Christian to comport themselves as citizens of heaven that they are. This means that the words of mouth, our actions, and lifestyle should conform and represent that of the citizens of Heaven. Blessed be GOD that has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms and gave us a rule book, a manual for living the glorious, triumphant and blissful life: the BIBLE. The Holy Scriptures are given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for training & instruction in righteousness, that the Christian may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work that GOD has prepared even before the foundations of this world (2 Timothy 3:15-17).
One cannot be a citizen of a nation and expect to get positive results: the blessings, the rights and the privileges of that nation, if they do not conform to the instructions, principles, order & directions of that nation. That is why diligent knowledge of the scriptures will cause the Christian to be prosperous and live a life that conforms and is worthy of a citizen of Heaven. Remember, we are not of this world; we are only ambassadors of CHRIST in this world, and very soon we will be called back to our home country (ZION) and be rewarded for every good work on earth. So let us, therefore, remain steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labour is not in vain in the Lord. And as citizens of Heaven, we represent our FATHER – the most HIGH GOD, and act accordingly as CHRIST representatives on earth just as the scriptures in Romans 12:1-2 says, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Glory to GOD!
Scripture meditation:
John 17:16; Psalms 15; James 1:21-24; Colossians 1:12-14; & 2 Corinthians 3:3.
Prayer:
Heavenly FATHER, I thank you for blessing me with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. Through your word, I comport myself as an ambassador of your kingdom bearing good fruits. And I enjoy all the privileges of being your child and heir according to the promise, living a life worthy of your glory. In JESUS’ NAME. Amen!
Confession:
I am a citizen of heaven, born of GOD, and I have overcome this world and its negativity. I flourish and prosper in all that I do. I am a citizen of Zion, I am indestructible, and success is my heritage!

The Real Enemy
Ephesians 6:12
New King James Version (NKJV)
12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
We are all one in Christ Jesus. We are all one body: the body of Christ Jesus joined together by the power and love of our Heavenly Father in Christ Jesus. Satan cannot defeat GOD, that is why his objective is to hurt the ones GOD loves so much: Christians. We are now born again and as such translated into the Kingdom of GOD, where we are far above principalities and powers, might and dominion (Ephesians 1 & 2). The true enemy is Satan: the devil. The scripture in 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
One of the primary strategies of Satan is to divide & conquer. He devises schemes and strategies to cause conflict amongst the children of GOD. Satan pitches Christians against one another so that they cannot love one another. Satan knows the power and the anointing of GOD’s SPIRIT only flows in love and the atmosphere of love (1 Corinthians 13:1-2 & 14). Let us not be Christians who allow negative thoughts, negative assumptions & imaginations, gossip, and false accusations to cause conflict amongst brethren. Satan wants you to think your fellow Christian brothers and sisters are the enemy. Conflicts amongst the brethren short circuits the power of GOD in them and makes their prayers, confession, and prophesies not effective. Another strategy of Satan is to cause distraction amongst the children of GOD. He paints pictures by using the systems of this world to cause distractions. Matthew 6:33 says “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” These distractions make some Christians to lose focus on what is most important: the worship of GOD in spirit & truth. These makes them to struggle for things that should have been added to them: what is their birth right. Satan did it in the garden of Eden, he is still doing it today. Satan knows when the children of GOD are distracted and have no time for GOD or the kingdom of GOD, they will struggle to get their hearts desire and needs. He wants Christians not to love, to be disobedient to the precepts and commands of GOD. Satan’s main strategy is to make Christians too busy to have knowledge of GODs word so that they will perish (Hosea 4:6).
We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. The bible tells us in 1 Peter 5:9 to resist the devil, standing firm in our faith. Verse 10 also admonishes us that our Heavenly Father through HIS Grace will strengthen, restore, secure, and establish us. Refuse to be distracted by Satan and his cohorts of darkness, and his schemes in this world and its systems. Let us be spiritually discerning to see the schemes of the true enemy. Let us mature spiritually through knowledge of the scriptures that will cause us to have good success and make our way prosperous. Glory to GOD!
Scripture meditation:
James 4:7; 1 Corinthians 13; Revelations 12:9-11; Acts 26:18; & John 15:1-17.
Prayer:
Heavenly FATHER, thank you for translating me into the kingdom of your dear son Jesus Christ, far above principalities and powers, might and dominion and putting all things under my feet. I receive your Grace and the anointing of your SPIRIT to submit to You and resist the devil. I stand firm in Your Word at all times, in Jesus’ Name.
Confession:
I refuse to be distracted by the schemes of the enemy, for the Greater One is in me!
